چکیده

An adaptive polarization mode dispersion (PMD) compensation experiment is reported in a 40-Gb/s phase shaped binary transmission (PSBT) communication system, with the use of a new digital signal processor (DSP)-based optical PMD compensator. PMD tolerance is found to be enhanced by 8 ps after PMD compensation with 1-dB optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) penalty. Under the condition of fast change of states of polarization up to 85 rad/s in the fiber link, the performance of our PMD compensator undergoes the bit error ratio (BER) test for as long as 10 hours. OCIS codes: 060.0060, 230.0230, 250.0250. doi: 10.3788/COL20100906.0000.

SBS Based Slow-Light Performance Comparison of 10-Gb/s NRZ, PSBT and DPSK Signals

We compare system performances of 10-Gb/s NRZ, PSBT and DPSK signals transmitted in SBS based slow-light delay line. The maximum delay-time of 81ps with error-free operation has been obtained by directly demodulating the DPSK signal through SBS effect. Introduction In recent years, slow-light has attracted extensive interest owing to its potential applications from quantum computing to optical ...

Theoretical and experimental study on PMD-supported transmission using polarization diversity in coherent optical OFDM systems.

In this paper, we conduct theoretical and experimental study on the PMD-supported transmission with coherent optical orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (CO-OFDM). We first present the model for the optical fiber communication channel in the presence of the polarization effects. It shows that the optical fiber channel model can be treated as a special kind of multiple-input multiple-outp...

Effect of Nonlinearity on PMD Compensation in a Single-Channel 10-Gb/s NRZ System

We simulate a 2000-km 10-Gb/s single-channel NRZ system with different polarization mode dispersion compensation (PMDC) techniques and compare the effectiveness of compensation with linear and nonlinear signal propagation. Significant differences are found between the results of PMDC with and without nonlinearity for all the compensation techniques that are examined. An analysis of PMDC based o...

Simulative Analysis of the Impact of Non-Linearity in Terms of BER, Q-Factor and Jitter in Optical Soliton Transmission at 40 GB/S.

In this paper we have analyzes the impact of chirp factor in terms of Q-factor, BER and jitter with different dispersion parameters for optical Soliton transmission links at 40 Gb/s. The results show that BER is minimum, Q-factor is maximum and the jitter value is minimum at or near 0. 7 values of chirp factor, also, the performance Soliton transmission system has optimum value. Further, it has...

A novel design of tunable PMD compensator using sampled fiber Bragg gratings with uniform grating period [5642-34]

With the fluctuation of the environmental factors, such as temperature, wind, and atmospheric pressure, the birefringence of a fiber changes along the fiber link and the effects of polarization mode dispersion (PMD) are random and time-varying, which makes it necessary to design a tunable and adaptive Fiber communication; Optical fiber; Fiber Bragg grating; Differential group delay; Dispersion ...
